CLINT HAMILTON ART
Statement
BIO
My work focusses on the classical themes of nature and the passage of time. Primarily using the changing seasons and the phases of the moon to help illustrate our disconnection to our environment and the material world.
Through preliminary note taking, drawing, photography and the appropriation of images, I work and rework the subject. Repetition plays a strong part in my work, reflecting the routines within our everyday lives. Ideas are upscaled through experimentation, making use of the physicality of my materials.
This emphasis on the 'material', is reflected in the largely non-digital media I use. I crave the tangible, so I work with many different mediums within my practice such as photography, painting, collage, sculpture and largely camera-less photography, along with everyday materials and found objects. These tools aid in the pursuit of reconnecting us with the greater and meaningful elements of our world
Originally completing Art and Design at Foundation Level, I left and worked in administrative work, and then finally in the mail service for some years. Eventually feeling unsatisfied and missing creativity I returned back to Coventry to complete a BA Honours Degree in Fine Art at Coventry University. As a result I have gained a keen interest in Camera-less Photography techniques, such as Cyanotypes, Argrotypes, Chemigrams and most recently Chlorophyll printing. All, processes which i am keen to share with others within workshops. An exhibition I was involved in at the Arcadia building, Coventry, made me aware of the organisation, Artspace, who had until recently ran the building. I currently have a position on the Board as a student representative for the Coventry area. Artspace is a charity supporting the development of artists and the visual arts in Coventry. They run arts projects and events and provide services to visual artists that live or work in Coventry and the surrounding area. The core work is to provide affordable spaces for visual artists to work and exhibit in, and opportunities for their development.
I have currently a part of the Hollyhead Studios Print Exchange, based in Coventry. As also, a member of the Studios itself, I volunteer to help out. I like to meet new people and feel communication is integral to my on going practice. I have a Stage 1 in British Sign Language
